Reduce image file size to an exact target — 50 KB, 100 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or any custom size. Quality drops only as much as needed; dimensions only when necessary.

How to reduce image file size

01

Upload your image

Drag and drop a JPG, PNG or WebP, or paste from your clipboard. Everything happens on your device.

02

Pick a target size

Choose 50 KB, 100 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or a custom size — or switch to manual and set the quality yourself.

03

Check and download

Compare before/after file sizes and dimensions, then save. The original stays untouched on your disk.

Resolution vs file size vs quality

These three get confused constantly — they are related, but not the same thing. Knowing which one you actually need is the fastest route to the result you want.

Resolution
The pixel dimensions of the image — width × height. A 4000×3000 photo is 12 megapixels; a 800×600 copy of the same photo is 0.48 MP. Lowering resolution throws away pixels permanently.
File size
How many bytes the file takes on disk — KB or MB. It follows from resolution × compression quality × format, so a small file can still be high resolution, and vice versa.
Image quality
How much visual detail survives compression. JPEG quality 90 keeps detail; quality 20 shows blocky artifacts. PNG is lossless — it has no quality setting at all.

What file size do you actually need?

Email attachments

Gmail and Outlook accept up to 25 MB, but 1–2 MB photos load instantly for the recipient.

Web & Core Web Vitals

Hero images under 200 KB keep Largest Contentful Paint fast on mobile.

Marketplace listings

eBay, Etsy and Shopify caps typically sit between 1 MB and 7 MB per image.

Job & visa applications

Forms frequently demand 100–500 KB passport-style photos.

Forums & chat apps

Pre-compressing to ~100 KB beats letting the app crush it to mush anyway.

Frequently asked

01How do I reduce a picture to 100 KB?+

Upload it here, pick the 100 KB target, and download. The compressor lowers quality as far as it can at full resolution, and only reduces dimensions if that is not enough — you will see exactly which happened.

02Are my images uploaded to a server?+

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API — your image never leaves your device.

03Will the resolution change?+

Not unless it has to. Lowering quality keeps every pixel. If the target is unreachable at full resolution, dimensions shrink proportionally and the tool tells you the new size.

04Which format should I compress into?+

Keep the original format when you just need a smaller file. WebP gives roughly 20–30% smaller files than JPEG at the same quality; PNG is lossless and shrinks poorly for photos.

05Is the quality loss visible?+

At 70–80% quality, most photos are indistinguishable from the original. The before/after preview lets you judge yourself before downloading.
